The power plant site in Haifa is preserved as the very first electricity infrastructure in Israel. In 1935 the first Israeli power station was built on the site, running on steam. This historic power station was housed in a truly magnificent building. In the Visitors Center, which is located on site, you will find a dynamic model of the large hall where the electricity was produced and next to it, an explanation about the control centers, which work around the clock, all year long, twenty four hours a day, and seven days a week.
In the course of your visit, you will be able to find out about how all this started approximately eighty years ago in the 20s, when Israel was only just in the process of being built up as a fledgling country. You will also learn how today’s gigantic structures cope with the everyday strains, faults and breakdowns, as well as how the company fulfils its commitment to keeping up a constant and reliable supply of electricity at every hour of the day and night to every last corner of the country. You will learn at first hand what it is like to be ‘starved of electricity’. You will also discover what pertains to the electricity company and what pertains to marine agriculture. Come and explore the special, one-off architecture in the shape of power station Haifa 1. In addition, you will see the lengths we go to to improve the quality of the air, following procedures that will convert the stations currently operating on site into the production of electricity with natural gas, that is with the cleanest, purest, ‘greenest’, most environmentally friendly fuel that you could possibly imagine.
In fact, the Haifa Visitors Center is especially keen on visits from young people. Once they are on site, our team of experienced youth leaders will teach these youngsters through play and a series of different activities all about safety in the home. Elementary school pupils practise with this material which teaches them about the subject of power stations through a huge number of fun games which are unique to our Center. We are able to accommodate every type of group on any specific subject they care to mention.
In addition, on holidays and during the summer, we hold ‘open days’ for both family groups and private individuals.
